Three Differences Between Using CBD and THC for Sex
By: Allessandra Inzinna
The cannabis industry is booming and constantly on the rise. Recently, weed and sex companies have taken to including CBD and THC in lubricants, lotions and other sex accessories (sexessories… ha). People with labias have taken to smoking beforehand to capitalize on CBD and THC’s different benefits. Whether smoking a joint before sex or using a lube, here are the differences between the two substances:
- High vs. healing
Daniel Saynt, the founder of the New Society for Wellness — a sexual wellness and cannabis club in New York City — notes that smoking a joint before sex can often bring people together.
“Before sex, just on the communication side, forming more of a connection with your sexual partners, cannabis does help with that,” he said.
For a lot of people, the effects of THC mean less anxiety, talking more and having an intensified curiosity; all beneficial things for communicating with your partner before or during sex, Saynt said.
CBD sexessories often reach their full potential as lubricants, massage oils or lotions to really highlight their healing, increased gential sensitivity and anti-inflammatory products. Smoking CBD joints can also help alleviate anxiety or stress without the high.
- Get your genitals high
THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical in weed that gets you high. When used in a lube, women have reported a tingling sensation that enhances sensitivity and intensifies orgasm.
The sensation can help focus the mind on what’s happening with their body, rather than being lost in thought. This helps both partners stay in the moment.
One woman said in a HealthLine article that while using a THC lube she noted that she forgot about the laundry that needed to go into the dryer or about filing her taxes. Instead, she just relaxed into the physical experience.
CBD on the other hand, helps mostly with inflammatory issues, pain and dryness, although people also report enhanced sensitivity. For that extra tingle, THC lubes are the best bet.
- Alleviate any pain
As much as 75 percent of women will experience pain during sex at some point, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Whether this pain is due to tensing up before insertion, endometriosis or ovarian cysts, using a THC or CBD lubricant has shown to help alleviate this problem.
However, smoking a joint with THC can sometimes induce anxiety, panic or discomfort. This can ruin the mood, and often cause painful sex when the feelings of stress set in.
CBD has none of the intoxicating properties, and all of pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory benefits. When wanting to spice things up in the bedroom without getting high, CBD may work best for you.
